Interesting article, Nicky, thanks for it. But let's not forget that psycho parents are not the only problem: there are many coaches and club oficials gone bad too! In particular, coaches without proper training can be as much dangerous as a fanatic parent (or even more).

Yes, Nicky, nobody will forget this case for a while... Although it was a bit extreme, it should serve as a lesson to many "pushy" parents. From trying to teach an 8 year old boy double push on 4x110, to administer him steroids, there is a very thin line. Alas, there are still too many psychos out there, demanding winning performance to their teen-age (or youger) kids: in fact there's a very well known case on a loony person that lurks in this same forum... Wanna bet his kids...

Aw, Alex... FIRS investing in kids? You're asking too much: they're already spending all their resources in 1º class traveling and fancy hotels... Perhaps Colopatinador you are on to something here. What do you think of FIRS actually stepping up to the plate and investing in this proposal. I know currently it is a waste of time looking to them for any help. Our coaches are all volunteers who have gone outside of the country for information from other coaches. Some are skater/coaches. This could be the ultimate job for Bill. It might be time for FIRS to invest back into the sport in which I see their hand out to take our money at every...

See what I mean? Canada has been sending skaters to Panams and Worlds for more than a decade (more or less the same guys, actually) but there is no BASE in the whole country, only a dozen kids that take this sport as a cross-training alternative... As opposed, you've got countries like Ecuador, that in the same period produced a solid foundation of clubs with loads of kids... which in turn are becoming elite athletes now.

Team NRS. This is our club and is the only kids inline club. Most of these youngsters joined for the summer to become better ice hockey players in the winter. Most clubs only cater to adults and this is the way it has always been. I enjoy working with these guys. Cheers Alex

I don't see this being a problem in Canada as unfortunately we have less than 10 competative kids in the whole country. On the other hand there would be 200-300 kids at a local ice speed meet. Cheers Alex

I concur 100% with you Bill... but nevertheless a coach can start expecting results from cadet/junior athletes, as well as the athletes themselves. Anyway, my article refers to PRE-teenagers, human beings that have not reached yet full hormonal-oseo-muscular growth: parents/coaches that demands performance (i.e. WINNING) from little kids are just out of their mind... I hope you agree on this!
