Hi Skaters,
While Sabine Berg was the Individual Star, Wouter Hebbrecht was the Sprint King, but lets take a very close look at the FRENCH TEAM effort. Serg the National coach has in the past, often been much criticised, but his handling of the team at the Europeans could not be criticised. 8 men, all go home with Gold Medals. Yann Guyader 3, Alexis Contin 3, Julian Despaux 2. Thomas Boucher & Julian Sourissea, an Individual Gold Also. But LeFevre, Pelloquin & Douchin, who had all done good work in the other events, took out the road relay, lets say a team that canleave its top5 skaters out of the relay & still win, is a team with a solid foundation to launch itself into the World champs. A great effort from France with a much stronger showing from the girls, but some unsavoury tactics by the 3rd skater in many races. All Junior Cadet & Senior champs together in Oostende Belguim next year, but the next step must be like the Worlds, only 2 skaters per event, tocome in line with the Worlds &help support the development of newer countries. The Wout & The French guys | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Hello people,
Catching up a little late maybe... but it's always good to keep one informed on the skating world. So I've read the posts, I've seen the video (great point of view by the way). I may be french (where the hell did I lost my objectivity ?!), but I tried to think as smart as a frog can. No offense to the Wout, who's a great great skater by the way (he comes, he wins, he leaves...) but here in France we call it a rookie mistake ! Ok, like you guys, I've seen the little arms/hands touching between the belgium and the french. But to me, and it seems obvious on the video, it has caused no slow down in the pace of the belgium skater. That is no fault ! Ok, at least, during a french championship, it wouldn't be ! I happen to be a coach (you all know the city of Pibrac, in Toulouse), and I always teach my boys and girls to "never ever leave the pickage where you're in front" ! And that had made us (them I should write) win a few titles ! I really don't want to be offensive or whatever (no english word manages to pop out), but it is another point of view of the skating rules book. Skating is ALSO a sport with contact, no one cannot deny it. It has always been ! So the real question is, where is the line between "contact" and "fault"... to me, to us, objectively (the most we can), this line was no crossed. Thank anyway for all the information and points of view you guys post on this forum. Bravo to the communauty of the skaters all around the world. MAtthieu |

Hi Matthieu, Thanks for your opinion. Here is something else to think about. A skater moves up from a 3rd position to the first position with about 300m to go. That
same skater posted the fastest 300m on that specific track a day before this race...he put 0.7 on the French skater that was behind him. Now my question to
you is; do you think its normal that this skater, in the last 75m, goes from 1st to 4th? I respect your opinion but have to disagree with you on this one.
