In 2008 Bont Wheels team were lightly raced, with basically WIC events & one or two other race meets, but in 2009 Europe is sure to see more of the BONT WHEELS.
In 2004 Bont had a team based in Italy, while Top Skaters like Botero & Presti raced only about 9 races, Wayne Begg raced 26 Marathons & Danny Finster nearly as many, also racing as many of the Italian open races as well.
Nicole Begg raced the same sort of programme in 2004, but in the last few years has made few appearances in Europe, outside of WIC races, but for sure her with the likes of 8 times World Champion Alexander Vivas & former top track World performer Tamara Llorens, they will race the likes of 3 Pista's & Gross Gera early in the season, this will ensure the European ladies are really tested, in 2008 a number of other top Colombian & American skaters also came over to compete.
The standard of the European Senior women has been of concern in the last 3 years, relays excluded, they have simply not performed up to by gone days, this year one silver & two Bronze medals was the total, as the Colombian, Korean & USA Skaters have dominated the championships.
New Zealand with one competitor Nicole Begg is next with 2 Gold, 3 Silver & 3 Bronze, while the total of European non relay medals for the past 3 years, has been 1 gold,1 Silver & 5 Bronze, I do not know how the likes of Great Italians Ghermandi, Canafoglia & the great Belguim Annie Lambrehts would feel about this return.
Part of this is I feel is to blame for the European Championship system, where they allow 3 from each country to start in races, as oppossed to two at the Worlds, the French Women looked like World beaters at the Europeans, with a 3rd person running rough shot over the likes of Nadine Gloor & they collected plenty of European medals.
But alas in top sport Laungage at the Worlds, "they failed to fire a Shot", I can remember back many years ago when the European results, were nearly a preview for Worlds.
In 1982 Italy won 18 out of 20 World titles, the ladies 9 out of 10, well how times have changed.
