Jonathan also raised an interesting point: heart attacks. Not kidding here: I suppose an ambulance would be in order, and that's another cost, that increases the entry fee.
Event duration: Jonny's right, but this is a holiday resort and not exactly a skateable island (too many mountains, not enough roads, definitely no track). I think that a whole week of races would be nice but its not quite feasible, besides it would put out many europeans that would rather come just for the week end (it's a 3 to 5 hours flight from most countries). However, I guess I can organize a couple of "special events" prior to the championship, like an indoor contest on wooden parquet and a road race on a closed circuit somewhere (laps of about 400 mts). Another interesting adventure would be a short race (it has to be, say 4-5 k at most) at 2200 metres over sea level, on a slightly uphill rough road at Teide vulcano's base. Not for everyone, surely.
Dates: how about the middle/last week of november? Here's nice and sunny, 20º to 30º during the day, no wind (southern part of the island). Besides, rates are cheaper b/c it's still low season... and afterwards Frank & me can go to Baselga
