Here is a video some might see as resembling the current Edward scenario, since Edwin is trying to hijack this thread .
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yioHCL7uKYs Some might see an eerie resemblance to the Lommers doping situation - personally I don't like doping athletes, but a parent that seems to have doped his child - and then is boasting about same child dominating other sporting events, is like thumbing his nose at authority - hence the video link! Too bad about all this, because I really enjoy Edwins postings about the Olympic situation ... And there is no way to stop him from making a mockery about the masters issues... (however Marcello did bait him a lot, so revenge is expected and not surprising... |

Yes, I read the proposal early this morning.
This Bit I will not be able to comply with though. Eligibility: To be eligible the skater must NOT be a member of any National Speed Skating Federation recognized by FIRS, neither have a license of his/her federation, but at least decent racing experience. Unfortunately I have to be affiliated to be able to race our Nationals and Oceania's. I assume that rule was tongue in cheek anyway, or you actually meant to say doesnt HAVE to belong. The Mens 35 to 60years. I would like to see a 1500m instead of your 15,000m (typo?) and the possibility of more than 4 races? Perhaps a 10k or 5000 points. I understand that with the age divisions then 4 races per age group will take a lot of time. Sure are a lot of right hand corners in that kart track...should be interesting. I'll study it a little closer and give you some more feed back. cheers johnny |

Hey oldkiwi,
I was at Oceanias this year - my first time. There were 12 aussie masters racing, representing all 3 age-groups, and there are more upcoming masters hankering to go race next year. I should point out that no New Zealand seniors or masters bothered coming over here to race us either, so the 'problem' appears to lie equally on both sides of the tasman. At this stage I believe that the majority of our masters will be making the trip over next year; If all goes well we could have as many as 15 men making the trip. Talk around the dinner table was very positive and everyone is very keen to continue with the event next year. In fact, I believe that the commitment level of all this year's Oceanias skaters is very firm indeed, and that we will field a numerous and strong team next year. Development of juniors here is very stong; we have numbers coming up the ranks all the time and this will easily sustain good racing for many years to come. p.s Now I have 3 golds to defend, try and keep me away |

G' day to all veterans. Yeah, the "MUST not", should have been "does not necessarily belong to any federation". Will correct that, thanks Johnny. As for the distances: I supposed the majority of older skaters prefer longer distances, so I mixed in a TT, a sprint and 2 long races... But we can agree on whatever races we like the most. As for the quantity of races: the more skaters signed in the less races we can do, of course. So counting on about 150 skaters in total, at 4 events for each category + 2 open races for everyone, we filled more or less the allotted 2 or 3 days. By the way: end of october, the 2nd South American Masters Champs take place near Santiago de Chile, just got the confirmation. It's a similar tournament: 3 days of competition, various distances, expected 100 skaters from the area. |

Hi Marcello - your proposal looks great!
About the track - You described the bitumen(?) as reasonable. How wide is the track? Looks like some tight corners - will be fun. What about the sides of the track? - The gokarttracks in dk usually have old rubber tyres stacked up along the sides, but going into them after a cornering with too much speed(...!) is no fun. As commented about 15000m or 1500 - a typo? What about a road circuit for marathon? And relays - you forgot that!! In the veteran shorttrack meetings we always have mixed relays - crossing ages, clubs, nationalities. Perhaps not compatible with a wc- meeting, but great fun!! Even if relays are restricted to homo(!!)geneous races, it will be doable with a return through the pit area after relay-"change/taking over"(don't know the word;-) keep up the good work! broerits |

Hey Lars! Ok, the bitumen is fine in most of the track, with a couple of rough spots and a bit ruined in one corner, but I got a half-promise already from the local government that in case an international event is held there, they will resurface at least the couple of bad spots. The elevation also is fine: slight uphill and downhill in places, but barely noticeable. As soon as I collect data with my Garmin, will post it here. No problem with the old tires on the sides: they're there, but NOT attached to the bitumen. We can move away those considered unsafe, eventually. As for the other questions... haven't you read the previous posts? Or did you get lost with Lamerz' bullshit? A marathon here is extremely difficult
to organize, unless we have a LARGE number of skaters. Otherwise they'll not close roads just for a hundred punters or so (just asked). What can be done
instead is to conceive a closed road circuit of about 400 to 600 metres per lap (maybe 1k max), so a full marathon is not a really good idea. And I did NOT
forget relays, in fact I mentioned them more than once in this thread. They should be "open" category races, outside the proper championship, unless
we want to have them per country too (but that would be difficult, as not many countries will have 3 or more skaters, while others might have too many). Mixed
with gals is my favourite, definitely: I'm a great pusher |

Johnny's 500m 2 man "match sprint" is a good idea, time permitting.... The intensity and excitement is amazing. Need to crunch the time needed
for this type event, as only 2 on the track at a time.
Quads should allowed to mix it up w inlines... maybe Johnny will want to do quads?? Last week of november might be too late for some Northern Europeans, they might already be either out of inline training mode or already into ice (or the winter getting fat and lazy mode... Oerits : Week 42, when is that? Mid october, good timing for fitness, but maybe still too far in the season... unless we move forward with Marcello's concept that its not nessessarily for the normal FIRS / CERS (masters) skaters... but the numbers of masters needs to be around 150, so doing everything possible to ensure the most people want to participate, means the calander is important. On the same note - a survey of masters skaters would tell quickly the majaority opinion of the flavor of the event - if more masters would prefer a "serious" style or more masters would prefer a "party" style championships. FEEDBACK on Marcello's proposal: (numbers are mine ) 1. Saying "accordance with CIC rules means there will be officials enforcing same 2. Marathon might be too long for circuit size (and a nightmare to tabulate - what to do w lapped skaters? ) Half marathon might be better 3. Age groups - NIGHTMARE! 5 year groups? I think better to model after the Dutch method for masters, 35 years old - is it really a "master"? I vote for starting at 40. 10 year groupings makes easier to tabulate as well. 4. Quota - good idea in principle. Limiting a countries participants in an individual race, might be better based on percentages of the total signed up for an individual race. Then, who gets to choose? I propose to put that back onto a countries skaters - to decide who gets to race. 5. Experience. A bit touchy here. I suggest that "a skater who has competed in speed world championships within the last 10 years (or whatever) be excluded - or you might have Giquel or Presti or etc mopping up. I wouldn't prevent a skater racing who has a current license fro m their individual federation 6.. Winners - should be some kind of overall winner for a distance grouping (like sprint meister = 200m 500m 1000m. etc - but should also recognise a races winner even if never another podium. hey, we're OLD - maybe we can only shoot one bullet! 7. Prizes. I vote "NO PRIZES/CASH/MERCHANDISE" awards for placements, only "trophies, medals, jerseys, certificates". Give loot and swag away in raffle format only - will keep the chosen few from taking all the goodies - and keepts the pressure off in Marcello having to scramble for loot for winners. Hey, its supposed to be fun, not business. 8 Anti doping should be in line with current WADA rules, all doping control should be in no particular order. Realistically there won't be any testing - who's gonna pay the 300Euro fee per testing sample anaylized? 9. There should be some type of official, not Marcello, or there might be fisticuffs (since we would have to settle things ourselves!) 9. Location and venue - since a cart track seems to be ok with most, alternative location with good weather and not too expensive to get too (maybe for second year of event) could be Singapore - they have had successful Asian Inline Cup races on similar track. Tracks like this are found worldwide. 10 Keep the sexist and drinking /partying jokes and comments down, we do want some women to race too - we don't want it to be seen as a private boys party only - common and decent people, women, etc, will shy away if it is viewed as out of control or a stag party. 11. I think to ensure the importance of this historic (hysteric?) event, jerseys should resemble the national flag of the skaters country (but no restriction on shorts, so Johnny can wear his famous rainbow shorts, if he can still fit his fat arse in them This will give (at least in the pictures) an air of respectability to the event. just because we are clowns, don't mean we have to INVITE people to look down and laugh at us!

Here's another thought....since we are MASTERS then maybe we should roll the distances back to what we used to race in the Old Days.
500m time trial, 500m 2 man sprint, 1500m, 5,000m, 10,000m, 20,000m To me, those are the "Classic" distances, but there was a change in mid 1980's to a 300m time trial instead of the gruelling 500m. shaping up though with some good input from Ulta. cheers johnny |

Another thought.
Since this venue has a 700m lap, then perhaps the venue should dictate the Time trial and 2 man sprint distances and be 1 lap. Time trials can start in 30 sec intervals. cheers johnny |
