I am not sure if I am over reacting, but at the maximum for this race wheel maximum size needs to be at 84 mm, too big a wheels , less control, tight corners & people diving in & out of properties along the way, well we do need variety, a steeplechase would be easier I suspect. Posts: 182 (07/10/09 13:52:06) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	i skated the new part of the course today, it is indeed very tricky with 3 corners, and one in particular, that require a lot of respect and common sense from the skaters. I tried the lefty after the downhill which goes into a tunnel at about 50% of the pace i thought would be safe just to test it before i gave it a proper go...and very nearly kissed the tunnel wall...this is a corner not to be underestimated. however, so long as the organisers and skaters are wise to this corner, the danger clearly communicated and respected, and the grass verge is left open as a plan B escape route then we should get through there more or less ok (all my fingers are crossed as i write this by the way) havng said that: skaters, or at least those in the know, should be consulted on courses going forward as this course is clearly unsafe for a world cup race. This presents a danger not only to the competitors but to the spectacle and reputation of an otherwise great race.....i just hope the IOC isn't watching this one as an indicator of our sport. see you all there tomorrow and lets take that corner easy hey lads

Posts: 1248 (07/10/09 14:37:17) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Hi Ben, I understand from Diego Rosero he was consulted & there will be some mats put in place & if anyone wants to pay $50,000 then they could use the usual course, so its either that or nothing. So as it was pointed out to me, its up to the top skaters to prove they are & get clear of the less competent skaters early on, if they are concerned, or otherwise there would not be a race. I always have said, let the recreation skaters do the lovely lake course & for evening exciement with the top akaters a small course of 3 or 4 km around the city area, comming through the Bull ring each lap, so spectators from the other events could wine & Dine while viewing the top skaters compete for primes each lap through the Bullring. Apart from Beil the public do not get a real chance to see top skaters in Action & no hero's are created for the young skaters to aspire to, with the road problems tomorrow could have been the ideal time to create such an event. But in this case the show must go on. Bill

Posts: 183 (07/11/09 00:16:51) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	ok then Bill, glad to hear it, Diego is not only one of the strongest but also the one of the most common sense skaters in the group, so if he has been consulted and safety precautions at his reccomendation are being put in place then we can all breathe a little easier. Like i said, the course is not ideal but if its treated with respect then its do-able. I 100% agree on making multiple lap races (maybe not quite 1 billion of the bull ring johnny ) but thats the general idea. there is no time to take in the scenery when you are racing so we could race next to a rubbish dump for all i care so long as the course was safe, had some uphills and most importantly, public exposure! My favourite marathon course in NZ is the old cemetery circuit in oldkiwi's hometown wanganui, which as the name suggests races around a graveyard in an industrial area! 50,000 is a lot of money to put up for race and shorter courses would save loads of cash as we wouldn't need 42km of roads blocked, maybe just 4 or 5km. and i also don't like the idea of creating dangerous courses in the interests of saving some cash...if someone breaks their neck on a course clearly unfit for skating then 50,000 won't seem like so much in hindsight anyway, all that aside, we have a race to get done today, and after hearing the safety update i am looking forward to what is hopefully gonna be a tough race. cheers, Ben Last Edited By: Ben1 07/11/09 00:31:18. What was the distance in Zug??? 55:12 indicates it was a little shy of a full marathon. Also nice to see Aaron skating again. BUT...whats up with Lugi coming in at 64th??? too much time drinking coffee in the "hut" instead of laps at the track? cheers johnny

Posts: 184 (07/11/09 22:29:13) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	hey johnny, yeah i survived, after a quick detour onto the grass!! the irony is not lost on me that after all my b*tching and whinging that i was one of the ones that didn't make the corner...maybe forewarned isn't always best the race wasn't full marathon, not many here in switzerland are, i think it was around 37 to 38km...but we were fair flying for most of it, and the sprint was one of the more intense i have been involved in. i tried the breakaways on your advice johnny, but there are far too many teams who wanna follow breaks but not work on them, so with the pack moving as quick as it was its very difficult to get away...not for lack of trying but! so, we gonna see you over here soon mate?? the birthday bbq is fast approaching!!

The good part was being able to finish the race. Nevertheless the wounds hurt, especialy in my face :-( What should I learn out of this? - excercise t-brake - train sharp corner with high speed Any comment on how to deal with such situations is appreciated. regards Markus
