Hi Bill,
I was just emailing Vincent today, he's got some Bont wheels real cheap that I'm buying off him. Loads of skating is happening this year, it seems bigger and more popular than ever. Hyde Park is well full of recreational skaters, and the speed scene is really taking off now. The other day we had 9 people show up enthusiastically for an 08.30 Sunday morning training session, it was great. No snow yet, in fact it's been uncommonly mild for November. Cheers, Mike. |

Hi Doon,
Stick to Hong Kong my friend, they need you to help out Yeowie, leave the English stuff to Vincent & the boys. What everyone wants to know is, why England set there best skater home from the Worlds, when he had a chance on the road. Cheers Bill |

Hi Bill,
I would love to give you the reasons why that happened, but I am not allowed to discuss, especially on a public message board - sorry. I will ask Vinny to post on here next time I see him |

Well we had an awesome weekend's skating here in London. Sunny, cold and lots of fun!
I cycled into the Park both days, and had a lot of fun training with my teammates this morning. We had to use the south ride in Hyde Park since the Serpentine was so busy. It did seem to be crash city though, one guy fell over on his bike when he couldn't unclip (yes we've all done that one!), and clashed skates during the intervals resulted in two falls, nothing serious thank goodness. Nice turnout too, I think over ten although I didn't count. More and more rec skaters are getting into the speed scene and having a good time with it. |

Hi Mike,
Great to hear, that more skaters are looking at the competitive side, England is a sleeping giant, the by gone days of Guys like John Fry senior & Mick McGeogh mounting the World dias regularly, are long over. But Guys like you willing to learn, can certainly help raise the standard, as you learn more, so do the others around you. Leon Flack was takn out of the road team, at the World champs, as apparently, he did not try hard enough in the track relay. Let me say what everyone else at the Worlds said, England did not have a hope in Hadies of doing anything in the track relay. Leon was their only World class hopefull, with a good chance of making the top 6in the road 200 T/T, there was no way a skater, who is allergic to distances greater han 500 meters, would want to ruin his chances in that event, by killing his legs in a relay. Som of the people who made this bad decision, are long time friends of mine, but sorry, this time you wee well out of line & did not consider o respect your athletes interests at all. He could have given some credibility to Englands otherwise inept performance, had he been fresh for the 200 T/T road. England's past is past, they must look to the future, luring Leon Flack, back from the Ice was a start, Ijust hope it is not the finish of Flack. Cheers Bill |

Hello Mike, are you "the" "Mike the workshop monkey"? I believe I corresponded with you a while back concerning some metallic encased spherical spinning devices? Hmmm. Anyhow, I was trying to reach Bob Flynn. Do you know how he faired the hurricanes? Thanks, RV.......

Re: England News | ||

Not news as such, but we had an awesome time last night at Trafalgar Square playing British Bulldog. It was the first time in ages I put my hockey skates on and had a good knock about with my mates. This morning I have extremely stiff muscles, we must have played for an hour and a half. I can barely lift my legs today. Plus a black eye from a collision, LOL. My missus was a little annoyed with me this morning for that, she forgets how I used to come home from hockey all the time.
I forgot how much I enjoy my hockey skates, talk about twitchy steering compared with speed boots, and I'm not exactly lacking in agility on my Bonts. |

Unsworth Medals | ||
|
Hi Skaters,
Veteren English skater Derek Unsworth gained a Bronze medal in the Masters 5km point race at the N.Z. championships in Auckland. He finished only one point behind second place. With the coldest & wettest December weather in N.Z. for 60 years, Derek must have felt at home, fortunately the rain has stayed away for the road championships. 1/ 36 pts Gary Clark, Wanganui 2/ 21 pts Bruce Begg, Timaru 3/ 20 pts Derek Unsworth, England 4/ 7 pts Bjorn Solheim, Christchurch 5/ Gregory Gurau Christchurch 6/ Peter Hawkesworth Wanganui 7/ Neil Thomson Nelson. Later in the day Derek finished 5th in the 1,000 behind Clark Solheim, Gurau & Begg. |

N.Z. Champs | ||

Hi Skaters,
English skater Derek Unsworth could not manage a second medal in the 3,000 meters, the final race of the Masters men. Wanganui skater Gary Clark a chimney sweep by trade, made a clean sweep of the Masters events, he won from Bruce Begg Timaru, & Bjorn Solheim, with Derek in 4th place. The Indoor flat track events commence tomorrow on the 100 meter ASB stadium Wooden Floor. Cheers Bill |

Hi Mike,
Good to see you give Vincent alias the "Prince of Belair" & Bont a plug on your site. And Vincent we look forward to seeing you add to this English thread, to let the World know, just what is happening in your part of the World. Is Leon Flack skating, or you lose him over a stupid relay decision? Cheers Bill |

Hi Bill
i have not seen Leon but did see his sister three weeks ago and asked her if he was still living in Holland or was he back in England, to which she told me he is living back in England. Who knows what will happen. In England there is alot of fitness skating going on in London. most of the people that do the fitness skating want do marathons. if we have a track race there may be 40 to 50 skates but when there is a marathon there can be 200 to 300 skates. |
