Dolphins have been known to ram sharks before also & there have been similar stories over the years.

One time in Australia, when Curt Labeda was over in New South Wales, Curt, Tony Keefe, Kevin Webb & myself were diving & spearfishing, Curt was a maniac & had all these bleeding fish trailing off his belt.

I spotted this guy waving his arms aound on the rocks, there had been a white ponter shark, swimming in the bay & they had thrown in some sheep heads, to try & attract it, so they could shoot it, & we were in the baited water, with curt & a blood trail, so we got out real quick.

Marcelo the Kiwi / Italian/ Argentinian, sorry we can't let you loose in a ladies race with those two precious women.

The 8 stage Speed King Tour programme, was rearranged to beat the bad weather, due to hit the venue overnight.

In a Master stroke event organizor Gordon Chamley, had all 6 outdoor stags completed on the Saturday, with 3 sprint events & 3 longerevents.

Today indoor will see a flying 1 lap T/T & a long event.

Speed star Kalon Dobbin currently leads the Top Class mens event, Nicole Begg skating in the mens grade, is currently mid field in 8th position.

Hi Skaters,

The N.Z. road racing championships get underway on Sunday the 2nd January, at the Mount Wellington Go Cart track, in Auckland.

During the past month N.Z. has experienced very bad unseasonable weather, with most the country, still waiting for summer to arrive.

As usual most Interest will centre on the senior mens grade, where the N.Z. men face in enviable task of trying to Wrestle a title from the Dobbin Brothers, Kalon & Shane both being two times World Champions.

Last year Kalon, Shane, Scott Arlidge & Wayne Begg took out all but two of the senior road medals between them, the only others to get a medal, were the very experienced Jeff Yeoman & Nick Thom.

This year Reyon Kay will be pushing hard for a medal, along with Junior World medalist, but now Senior Aaron Lawson.

Internationally much travelled skating Guru Jonathan Seutter, has been coaching first time entrant James Frings, who has been living in Korea, he rates Frings a good chance of testing the top N.Z. guys.

But the N.Z. men are of a very high standard & most pundits think, he will be very lucky, to get a sniff of the placings, while Frings fitness is likely to be good, he will be lucky if he has the finishing speed to mix it with 4 guys that have been top 4 in World Champs sprint races.

The one advantage Frings does have is that with a hard core of top men skaters, they all know each others strengths, with many prepared to play the waiting game.
This could play into Frings hands, as if he breaks away, they may look at each other, to see who is prepared to chase. At least it will add some interest to the field, as all others are well known to each other.

While there is plenty of opposition for the top men, the womens grade is the opposite. World Junior medalist Nicole Begg, is without the strong competion from the 3 Wooding sisters, Nicola (Reynolds), Rebecca & Shannel.

It must be almost be the first time in almost 2 decades, that a Wooding family member, is not contesting the N.Z. speed champs.

Of interest will be how Close Intermediate Junior sprint star, Seiya Asami can get to the seniors on his home track, the Mount Wellington Go Cat track, Asami 6th at the last World champs, is very close to the Worlds best Juniors, in the 200 meters Time Trial.

Kalon Dobbin 17.1 & Nicole Begg 20.0 broke the N.Z. 200 record times, but because of wind the records will not stand.

Kalon made it a double in the 10,000 points race, after brother Shane decided to sit out the event. After a dissapointing World Junior champs, Peter Micheal showed his true ability, with a close second, after doing a lot of chasing breakaways.

With a sprint every lap, on the less than 400 meter circuit, the pace was on from the start, with some very early drop offs, both James Frings & Shaun Perkinson were lapped early.

Ben Alchin & Wayne Begg broke away from the bunch, with about 17 laps to go & were away for about 5 laps, before being swallowed up.

Officials are still to check the sprints to confirm the results, as the 3rd placing is probably between Ben Alchin & Scott Arlidge, Aaron Lawson, Reyon Kay & Glen Cooksley, were others in the main group.

The Open Ladies race was an opposite affair, Nicole Begg went to mix it up for half the race, but early on went & lapped the field twice, Kirsty Picard was second & the young Samantha Micheal 3rd, Samantha is finally old enough, for the Oceania champs this year, so will be a welcome addition to the team.

Young Upper Hutt star Helen Wong, was nearly the second fastest female in the 200 meters T/T & is a very exciting sprint prospect, for the future.

The 500 meters also gets underway this afternoon.

Hi Skaters,

The 20km Elimination & 1,000 meter races were decided today monday, final day Teusday the 5,000 points & relays will be decided.

With Shane Dobbin suffering from a groin strain, Kalon Dobbin is on target, to take out all senior individual titles.

In the 1,000 meters, Kalon won from Wayne Begg 2nd & Shaun Perkinson 3rd, with the other 3 finalists being Aaron Lawson, Glen Cooksley & Ben Alchin.

In the 20km Elimination Kalon won from Scott Arlidge 2nd, with Ben Alchin 3rd, with Reyon Kay & Peter Micheal the next two & Wayne Begg 6th.

In the Ladies Nicole Begg won the 1,000 from Krystine Davies, also the 20km, after a steady start for the first 5km, Nicole went away solo, to win by 3 laps & pick up a new record in 39min 17 sec, on a difficult track for fast distance times.

On the final road day, prior to the indoor nationals, interest will centre on the mens relay, last year on the 500 meter fast Trafalgar circuit, in a tactical race, Palmerston North Kalon & Shane Dobbin, with Jeff Yeoman, were beaten by Auckland, Scott Arlidge, Wayne Begg & Aaron Lawson, with Auckland getting a new N.Z. record.

This year Palmerston North long time winners of the event, will be determined to regain the trophy, but the status of Shane Dobbin, will be a key factor.
