In gaining 2nd place in the 5,000, but winning the final sprint Reyon Kay gained a N.Z. record of 8mins,18.560 seconds.
The four breakaway skaters kept the pace on while going for the sprints, every lap on the approx 360 meter circuit, Scott Arlidge, Reyon, Ben Alchin & Wayne Begg all gained the big points.
Previously the 5,000 meters was a straight race, but on the small circuit & sprint every lap, with the breakaway clear, the pace was kept on, with the four skaters, finishing within 2 or 3 meters of each other.
For Reyon Kay its a real confidence builder, as he had not skated to his potential, in the other events & never looked a medal contendor.
In the Juvinile Boys champs, Mark MacDonald & Uriah Solheim beat Jordon Ishigaki, in the final event.
Eduarde Slob won the Junior Masters 3,000 over Tony Alexander to get 3 of the 5 titles. While Gary Clarl completed a clean sweep of the 5 Masters events.
The ladies relay was won by Upper Hutt over Wanganui.
Cheers
Bill
