Greetings to all,
I have had my semi race skates for several months now. After a month of waffling between the Alpha and Semi race I went for the Semi race. The frame is a lot longer then my Tecnica skates. The Tecnicas were so comfy, but too much padding made them feel like a big easy boy sofa going down the trail. No road feel! The Semis took two trips to the oven to get that fits like a glove feel. So fast, stable and nice!
The dominatrix red is rough on the eyes!
I have been using the cheaply made Powerslide brake on them. The brake material works great. My right heel and ankle were broken so it is hard to turn my right foot for a t-stop.
Last Saturday my flash Gordon Silver Alphas arrived, I could not resist buying them.
When the mailman delivered them I thought the box weighed nothing, I thought they forgot some parts.
One trip to the oven and they were done. The LITTLE extra padding was evident when I was fitting them. When I tried them at the 12 mile path by my house I thought these skates are so much fun. They have a nice short frame, fast 90mm wheels, and factory brake. They are super light weight it feels like you are wearing nothing. Less metal means lower weight and yes a factory brake! No more home shop looking Powerslide. I am Psyched!
When I put the Semis back on, the boot was much tighter and more glove like. Wow the movements of my foot are directly transmitted to the skate. What a road feel! But the longer frame made for a less responsive ride, but they are also fast and stable
The differences between the skates is like using a 167cm gs snowboard with tightly buckled boots on a long winding trail VS a short 147cm slalom board with the boots loosely buckled and wearing thick socks, on a mogul trail.
I took a picture of both skates with the different brakes on them. I have since added the sculpture like Bont brake to my Semi race skates. The angle is fine but the brake material is too plastic like and melts rather then breaking up like a rubber eraser. I love owning high performance products snowboards mtn bikes and now amazing Bont inline skates.
The Semis and Alphas are awesome skates with very specific purposes and different enough to warrant owning both pairs.
Except for the old semis color and the new semis unpalatable color.
White and black
1/8/2008 60 degrees today and I took the Alphas out and they never fail to impress. Might as well sell my snowboards
