I have a dilemma with purchasing equipment especially the new skates/boot combo. The international pricing of equipment via website and local retail outlets is
significantly different for a similar product.
For example: I am currently in the market for a pair of Bont Semi-Race and my local shop here in Australia sells at A$579 (US$556) and the RRP in Australia is A$599. Yet I can source exactly the same product from several US or international suppliers for around the US$350 price point which includes delivery. I am not sure what the US$ RRP is.
I really would like to be able to support local business but the SIGNIFICANT price difference, in this case a 40% difference, makes it hard! When it comes down to it, the price matters especially when its such a huge difference US$200+ buys a lot of wheels or accessories.
I know there will always be competitive pricing and discounting, that's to be expected, however in this global marketplace is there a way we can minimise the difference so that there is less need to go for the cheapest price at the expense of supporting your local supplier/retailer?
